Michael D. Story

Michael’s journey with stage IV non-small cell lung cancer began on March 28, 2024. The diagnosis was a shock, but his medical team at the Charles A. Sammons Cancer Center quickly outlined a treatment plan. It included chemotherapy and immunotherapy, using pembrolizumab, pemetrexed, and carboplatin, administered every 21 days for four cycles. Michael was determined to fight, despite the challenges ahead.

However, on May 27, 2024, Michael’s journey took an unexpected turn when he was hospitalized with pneumonia. His breathing became difficult, and his body grew weaker. Dr’s reassured him that clearing the infection was essential before proceeding with cancer treatments. Their unwavering support gave Michael hope. “This is just another step,” Dr. reminded him.

As days passed, Michael’s condition improved, and his infection cleared. He was eager to begin chemotherapy, ready to resume his treatment. With each step, Michael grew stronger, bolstered by his doctors’ care and the support of his family.

When he was discharged, Michael was prepared to continue the fight. His treatments would be difficult, but with his dedicated team by his side, he knew he wasn’t alone. Every cycle of chemotherapy brought him closer to his goal: survival. Michael’s journey was far from over, but with resilience and hope, he was determined to face whatever came next.
